World 1st Sky Pool - London
Float Between Buildings
Londoners working in the finance sector will recognise the impressive Canary Wharf and City skyline. Soon, a few of its lucky residents will be able to float between two buildings in their very own “sky pool” – the world’s first in architectural design.
Bridge of Water
Isle of Dogs based developers, Ballymore will build a 25m "sky pool" between the buildings in London's Nine Elms, the emerging riverside district by Battersea Power Station.
10 Storey High Glass Box – with amenities!
Encased in just 20cm of glass, this ‘glass box’ will be suspended 10 storeys (35m) up, providing a bridge between two apartment blocks at Embassy Gardens. Located near the new American Embassy, residents will also benefit from a sky deck which boasts a spa, a summer bar, and an orangery with views of the Houses of Parliament.
The Cost of a ‘Posh’ Dip
Taking a sky-high dip doesn’t come cheap. Flats in the 2,000-home complex cost upward from £602,000. However, if you feel sick at the idea of seeing the ground way beneath you, but would still appreciate a mid-swim view, the highest swimming pool in Western Europe on the 52nd floor of the Shard is available for a night as a £450 hotel suite guest.
Arup + Reynolds Design
Designed by Arup Associates and Reynolds, the aquarium designers, the pool has been granted planning permission and will be entirely transparent and structure free. It is just one highlight in a vast £15bn building project in south-west London.
“My vision for the sky pool stemmed from a desire to push the boundaries in the capability of construction and engineering, I wanted to do something that had never been done before.” said developer Ballymore’s chairman and CEO, Sean Mulryan, adding “The experience of the pool will be truly unique, it will feel like floating through the air in central London.”
An ‘Integrated’ Development Approach Needed
Forewarned is forearmed, so this report may herald a shift to suburban projects. These may be assembly and redevelopment of whole areas, or they may be infill and the addition of extra floors. Whatever the case, adopting a flexible, approach to unit design, delivery and assembly will pay dividends. Top this end a partnership approach through which you can also secure the benefits of speed, accuracy and the quality delivered by workers that enjoy working in enriched job environments, may be favorite. And of course using the most advanced forms of Low Energy building will certainly help your marketing. Call or e-mail us for a no-obligation chat today. You’ll be glad you did.
